PostSubject: Sasha the destroyer   Fri Apr 18, 2008 1:54 pm

I give up!!!

I can not find a toy that is tough enough for Sasha.

A stuffed toy will last maybe a day.

Tennis ball (even the "Industrial Strength" one): 10 minutes

Hard Plastic Toys: 1-5 days depends on how much she likes it.

Rubber toy: 1-5 days (Bad Cuz lasted for 2 days...)

She even made a hole in her automatic water dispenser within 10 days of purchase!

What can I get her that would last?

I am seriously thinking about getting a bite sleeve for bite work...

Have you tried the hard rubber Kong toys? Cruiser has a black one that he's had for ages, and even the red one ... supposed to be a little softer ... has lasted a couple of years.

Stuffed toys or hard plastic ... fugetaboutit ... they don't last any time unless they have a sound chip that amuses him for 10 minutes or so. Then it's ... R I P ! ! ! and stuffing everywhere. Except when he eats it and then it's stuffing somewhere else ... ugh.

We had the 14" version for 10 years and finally passed it on to another dog pack because Dutch just doesn't like to play with it. I used to remove the plug and put pebbles in it, it drove Bear crazy and he LOVED his big red ball.

I may try the 14" one. If Cruiser can get his jaws open wide enough, hard plastic items are goners. Of course, that may be his enjoyment of a toy ... destroying it!

He does, however, play with the Kongs. Not every day, but frequently enough. He particularly likes the way they bounce irregularly ... he's like a gigantic puppy trying to catch them. He's even been observed bouncing them down the stairs all by himself so he can bomb down them to chase it. Mostly, though, he prefers to totally destroy things all by himself OR have someone throw (and throw and throw and thr.........) them for him. He can be tireless. Wink

The 14" one is slightly bigger than a bowling ball and they are hard, thick plastic. (My dear departed) Bear did his darndest to try and chew it, but just couldn't get his mouth open that wide. He scratched it - a lot - but they were all superficial. Dutch doesn't get it, I rolled it to her, it bumped her legs, she looked at me like "Hey - That hurt!" and never gave it a second look. I passed it on to a friend who has three labs and a GSD who are all ball crazy about 2 years ago and it's still their favorite toy. Her 8 pigs even enjoy banging it around occasionally. And still the worse damage is superficial scratches.
