When I was young, and living at home, I too, had a horse, Shadow was her name, and of course, black. I went away for a weekend, and came home to find out that my father sold her. I had just paid for 500 bales of hay, 2 weeks before that, and he sold that too. I remember kicking him in the shin, and crying for weeks. Never did really forgive him.

Omigosh ... that would have been terrible to come home and find your horse just gone.

Sometimes when you hear or read about something a parent, or even just another person, did, makes you really wonder what they were thinking and how they could have possibly thought that their actions were "okay." Maybe the key word in that sentence is "think" or the lack thereof. Not that anyone is perfect (except all of us, of course!), but ... geez ...

It is a sad thing for a parent to buy something, the child falls in love, and then later, maybe years later, regardless, that the parent just sells or gives it away.
The child, whether teen or pre teen, has no say in the matter. Very sad!

When I was 12 we moved to a different state and took our dog with us. When we got to our location my dog was gone. We had stopped at a rest stop in the middle of the night and the dog had probably gotten out there. It was probably hard to make sure all six kids were back in the truck. I cried for a week solid and get a lump in my throat just thinking about it now. I have never gotten over the fact that one of my parents would not make the three hour drive back to that rest stop and at least look for the dog (it was in the middle of no where), and I always wonder what happened to Fraiser. That was 36 years ago. Stuff like that never leaves you.
